FAQ
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Card payments via our Eftpos terminal or payment via our online link.
We accept Cash but it has to be the correct amount as we do not carry money/change in the Vans.
We accept interest free payments such as Afterpay, Zip, Paypal (Pay in 4) and Humm.
What areas do you travel to?
Shifters Automotive covers Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and Central Coast.
We travel as far as:
North= Raymond Terrace
South= Gosford
East=Nelson Bay
West=Singleton
We will travel further for full day bookings. E.g there is a few businesses in Sydney who will book us a full day of work.
Do you have a workshop? where is this based?
Shifters Automotive is purely a mobile mechanic at this stage. We do not have a workshop only "Work Shops on Wheels". Stay tuned as there may be something upcoming in the future.
Can you carry out Pinkslips (Rego inspections)?
We do offer Pinkslip Rego inspections. These are carried out mobile and do carry a Call out Fee charge (This is permitted by Service NSW for Mobile inspections).
Appointments must be booked in advance for these.
Can you carry out Pinkslips (Rego inspections) without looking at the car?
No, this is illegal and risks not only our inspector privileges but also risks shutdown of our business.
My vehicle failed the Pinkslip (Rego Inspection)! Why?
There are strict guidelines that are made by AIS/Service NSW that must be followed by our inspector to "Pass" a vehicle.
If your vehicle fails, this is nothing personal, we are just doing our job. It is your responsibility to maintain your vehicle.
If we pass a vehicle that is not safe it is a risk to you, your family, your kids and other drivers on the road.
Can you carry out Blueslips (unregistered vehicle inspection)?
Unfortunately we cannot carry out Blueslips as part of the application is to be based in a workshop.
Am I able to request a mechanic?
Yes! You can request your preference of who you would like to work on your vehicle. Just mention it when booking!
What is the difference between a Logbook and non logbook service?
A logbook service is carried out based on what your vehicle logbook or manufacturer recommends. These maintain your vehicle warranty also. Maintaining the logbook services once you're out of your warranty period is more beneficial for the life of your vehicle and also resale.
A "Non" logbook service is a service carried out not per manufacturer recommendations. These are also sometimes called a Basic Service and commonly consist of an oil and oil filter change alongside cabin/air filter if required.
Do you attend to Emergency breakdowns?
Yes we do depending on the location of the breakdown and the jobs already prebooked for the day.
We do have multiple vans on the road so your welcome to give us a call and see if we have the capacity.
Unfortunately, it's not fair to other customers that have prebooked to cancel their bookings and attend to a breakdown so sometimes it just isn't possible. Although we always want to help and we try our best.
I noticed your also on Autoguru, can I still book direct?
Autoguru is purely a booking platform, there is no disadvantage to us or you to booking directly or via Autoguru.
If you have a trickier repair that needs quoting you are best to contact us direct as we do not receive any of your contact information to ask questions.
I own a business with multiple vehicles, do you work on Fleets?
We definitely work on fleet vehicles! The beauty of being mobile ensures your vehicles are off the road for as minimal time as possible. We can also work on cars while your work and just carry out the job on your worksite.
